چکیده

The study presents taxonomic account of 52 species of dung beetles belonging to 22 genera, 12 tribes, 04 subtribes, 05 subfamilies and 03 families viz. Scarabaeidae, Geotrupidae and Hybosoridae from Chhattisgarh. Interactive identification keys to the subfamilies, tribes, genera and species were prepared by studying thoroughly the morphological characters of all the dung beetles specimens collected from the state. The subfamilies; Aphodiinae and Orphninae and the genera namely; Aphodius, Bolboceras, Caccobius, Copris, Drepanocerus, Phaeochrous, Phalops, Rhyssemus, Sisyphus, Tiniocellus, Oniticellus, Onitis and Orphnus are first time studied, illustrated and keyed from the state. Out of 52 species, 36 species are reported as addition to the dung beetle fauna of Chhattisgarh. Based on the collection data, the highest number of species were recorded from Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary (41spp.) followed by AchanakmarAmarkantak Biosphere Reserve (27 spp.) and Kanger Valley National Park (15 spp.).

Species Diversity and Seasonal Abundance of Scarabaeoid Dung Beetles (coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Geotrupidae and Trogidae) Attracted to Cow Dung in Central New Jersey

—Species diversity and abundance of scarabaeoid dung beetles (Coleoptera) attracted to fresh cow dung were studied in three habitats of New Jersey: Hutcheson Memorial Forest (HMF) disturbed field, HMF old growth forest, and Rutgers University Bovine Farm. Over a one year period, baited pitfall traps yielded a total of 15,206 beetles representing at least 26 species. Onthophagus hecate was a dom...

The First Morphometric Study of the Horn Morphological Pattern in a Geotrupidae: The Case of the Dor Beetle Ceratophyus rossii Jekel, 1865.

Among beetles, thousands of species develop horns, the size of which is often extraordinarily disproportionate with respect to body size. The Scarabaeidae is the family in which horned species are most predominant, but other families, such as the Geotrupidae (dor beetles), also show remarkable horns, although in a more limited number of species. Horn expression mechanisms are well documented in...

Effects of an increase in population of sika deer on beetle communities in deciduous forests

The overabundance of large herbivores is now recognized as a serious ecological problem. However, the resulting ecological consequences remain poorly understood. The ecological effects of an increase in sika deer, Cervus nippon Temminck (Cervidae), on three insect groups of beetles was investigated: ground beetles (Carabidae), carrion beetles (Silphidae), and dung beetles (Scarabaeidae and Geot...
